Chroma Jam

Puzzle·38.2K plays·Updated Oct 3, 2026·How-to guide

A colour-mixing logic jam. Slide and merge shades across the board until every cell resolves to a single clean hue — simple rules, genuinely twisty levels.

Chroma Jam is a colour puzzle about resolution rather than matching. Cells on the board carry mixed, muddied shades; moving a piece merges and separates tones, and the goal of a stage is to end with every cell showing one clean colour. The rule set is introduced over the first handful of levels and then quietly deepened.

What Makes It Work

  • Legible colour states. You can always read which cell is pure and which is contaminated, so mistakes are obvious before they are fatal.
  • Levels that teach one idea each. A new mechanic appears, gets a safe practice stage, then gets combined with the last.
  • No hidden mechanics. Everything you need is visible on the board.

Approach

  1. Solve the corners first — they have the fewest entry routes and constrain everything else.
  2. Keep pure cells pure. Once a cell is the right colour, avoid passing mixed tone through it.
  3. If a stage fights back, count backwards from the finished state: which single move must have happened last?

🎮 How to Play

Basic Controls

  1. Swipe in any direction to slide all tiles on the board.
  2. When two tiles of the same colour collide they merge into a higher shade.
  3. Goal: create the target colour by chaining merges in the correct order.
  4. The board has limited free space — if it fills completely you lose the level.
  5. Undo lets you step back; Restart clears the board for a fresh attempt.

Strategy & Advanced Tips

  • Keep your highest-value tiles in corners. Corner tiles are hardest to dislodge accidentally, so park your progress there.
  • Plan the colour chain backwards. Work from the target colour and figure out which two shades merge into it, then which merge into those.
  • Don't merge too eagerly. Sometimes keeping two same-colour tiles apart gives you more flexibility for future moves.
  • Manage free space above everything. A board with 3+ empty cells offers recovery options; a full board is almost always fatal.
  • Use the swipe direction strategically. Every swipe moves ALL tiles — so a single move can set up three merges if the layout is right.

Playing on Mobile vs Desktop

Swipe gestures work identically on touch and mouse-drag. Desktop players can also use arrow keys. The colour palette is designed to be distinguishable even on screens with slightly off colour calibration.

Common Mistakes

  • Filling the board by spawning new tiles too aggressively without merging first.
  • Merging two tiles when keeping them separate would have set up a triple merge next turn.
  • Forgetting that every swipe moves all tiles — check what you are pushing toward the walls.

Level 12 is a small masterpiece of a puzzle. Solved it twice just to check it was not luck. It was not 🎨

Would love a shape marker option. Pure colour distinction gets rough for me after an hour or so.

Sliding tiles until the colours line up is a genuinely new twist on the format. Took me three levels to click with it.
