Hold the line as the horde pours in. Aim, shoot and reload between zombie waves, spend earnings on firepower and stay alive one more minute.

Zombie Down is a survival shooter with a simple contract: the zombies keep coming, and you keep shooting. Aim at the horde, manage your reload windows and use the gaps between waves to buy upgrades — damage, fire rate, movement speed and new weapons.

Reload Management

The single biggest beginner mistake is emptying a magazine into a distant straggler and then having nothing when the fast pack arrives. Shoot to kill, not to clear, and reload during lulls.

Wave Knowledge

  • Fast zombies come in small numbers and punish standing still.
  • Tanks absorb enormous damage; ignore them early and let a heavier upgrade handle them.
  • Swarm waves reward area damage — this is when a shotgun or pierce upgrade pays for itself.

Positioning against a corner reduces the directions you must cover, and it is the standard trick for surviving the heavy middle waves.

🎮 How to Play

Basic Controls

  1. Tap or click on zombies to shoot them — aim is automatic.
  2. Reload happens when you run dry; tap the reload button or press R.
  3. Earn cash per kill; spend it between waves on gun upgrades and ammo capacity.
  4. Special zombies (tank, runner, spitter) require different targeting priorities.
  5. Survive all waves in a level to advance; zero lives means game over.

Strategy & Advanced Tips

  • Prioritise runners. They close distance fastest and kill you before the slow tanks even reach the front line.
  • Upgrade ammo capacity before damage. Dying mid-reload with a full clip is the most common death cause; more capacity means fewer reload windows where you are helpless.
  • Let the tank come to you. Tanks are slow — focus on clearing the small zombies around them first, then deal with the tank when it is isolated.
  • Save your shotgun for close encounters. Switching to the shotgun at point-blank range clears clusters that would overwhelm a single-target rifle.
  • Position for chokepoints. Later waves funnel through narrow corridors — pre-aim there and let the zombies walk into your fire.

Playing on Mobile vs Desktop

On mobile, tap to shoot and use the on-screen buttons to reload and switch weapons. On desktop, click to shoot, R to reload, and number keys to switch weapons. Both versions have identical wave timing.

Common Mistakes

  • Shooting tanks first while runners reach your position unopposed.
  • Forgetting to reload between waves and starting the next one with 3 bullets.
  • Spending cash on cosmetic upgrades instead of the practical ammo/damage upgrades.

Surprisingly tense for something that runs in a browser tab. The horde getting louder is a fair warning.

Aiming for heads matters less than clearing the crowd. Anything with spread wins the later waves.

Barricade first, shoot second. That order is the whole game and I learned it the slow way 🧟
